Ice Sculpture for Book Across the Bay

An article by Hope McLeod about my recent ice sculpture work appeared on the front page of the Bayfield Journal and in local online newspapers on February 20, 2015.

ASHLAND, Wis. — Book Across the Bay (BATB) had a new addition this year: ice sculptures by artist Leonarda Boughton. As with all projects dependent on Mother Nature, this one certainly had its white-knuckled challenges. Nonetheless, Boughton overcame them all, that is, with a little help from her friends, old and new, who just happened to show up when she needed them most.

"A Big Splash" At Opening

An article by Hope McLeod about my work in a recent exhibit appeared in local online newspapers on Thursday, October 16, 2014:

WASHBURN — Two oil paintings at CBAC’s annual member show at the Washburn Cultural Center this month tumble out into the room: The Third Coast (58 x 68 inches) and Venus Transit (58 x 42 inches). Both are global in size as well as perspective involving ancient maps and central figures who summersault either downhill or into a giant body of water, symbolically Lake Superior. Each one invites viewers to crawl into and out of this artist’s made-up world, just for the fun of it.

Discover a Family Art Adventure — 2012

Painting, Drawing and Wildlife in Costa Rica with Thomson Family Adventures! June 23-29, 2012

I will be offering an intensive watercolor workshop with Thomson Family Adventures. Come explore Costa Rica's exuberant nature while developing your artistic skills!

1) Your kids are open books, blank slates soaking up new ideas. Why not expose them to a new way of seeing the world around them? They might already love to draw and paint, or they might never have thought of it before; isn’t this an important thing to learn? And have fun in Costa Rica at the same time.

2) We’ve had adults go on an art adventure thinking they will never participate in the art, and they end up being the star creative forces. You never know what new thing you might discover about yourself when you step into something new. Try it.

3) Meet Narda Boughton, our favorite visual artist, who will take you along on these journeys of wonder and discovery.

Venus Transit Chosen for Book Cover

Hot off the press!   "Venus Transit" was recently chosen to be on the cover of Joan Margarit's most recently published collection of poems.

One of Spain's foremost poets, "in Strangely Happy, Margarit builds an architecture of the human spirit out of the unpromising materials of self-doubt, despair and death. His poetry confronts the worst that life can throw at us, yet what lingers in the mind is its warmth and humanity".

A stunning collection of poetry—well worth reading!

About the Author

Joan Margarit was born in 1938 in Sanauja, La Segarra region, in Catalonia. He is an architect, and from 1968 until his retirement was also Professor of Structural Calculations at Barcelona's Technical School of Architecture. He first published poetry in Spanish, in 1963 and 1965, but after a silence of ten years switched to writing and publishing in Catalan. From 1980 he began to establish his reputation as a leading Catalan poet. As well as publishing many collections in Catalan, he has translated most of his own books into Spanish. Tugs in the Fog: Selected Poems (Bloodaxe Books, 2006), the first translation into English of his Catalan poetry, was a Poetry Book Society Recommended Translation. Strangely Happy, a selection of his later poems, also translated by Anna Crowe, was published by Bloodaxe Books in 2011.
